How To Save Money....

by making things yourself!

i am, by all intents and purposes, girl who loves a good deal. obvs, right? anyway, being that i love to save money....i also love to try and make things myself. when i can at least. i don't know knitting my own sweaters, or cobbling my own shoes....but sometimes, just sometimes....i make something work.

check out my handiwork from yesterday!

so, i was browsing on etsy and found these super hot feather headbands....for about $25 dollars. not bad, but also a splurge for a headband. so i decided to try it myself. i bought the feather pads for less than $5, and then got the headbands for .97 at walmart. the glue cost be about $5, but hello, i have a bazillion times more than i need for this project.

hello my pretties!! aren't they awesome?! i didn't model them on my head....because the glue wasn't dry. and i love them....but not enough to make them permanent fixtures on my noggin.

then, i found instructions a few weeks ago on Style Me Pretty for DIY coasters (the link takes you straight to the instructions). i thought, "hey, i can do that".

oh man can i! this is seriously my new fave thing.

holla!! aren't they so super freaking cute?! the giraffe ones are for my little sis, the black and white are for me.
cost breakdown::
sheet of scrapbook paper = .29
mod podge = $6
sponge brushes = .97
tiles = FREE, because the previous owners of our house left them....but you can get a box of 80 for $13 from home depot.
paper cutter i will use for LOTS of other things = $20.
so, we're talking less than $1 per set, not counting the supplies i'll use for more stuff. small paper makes 4 squares, i have some 12x12 paper still to cut.
so the lesson is, make it, don't buy it if you can!!

it's so awesome, i didn't even finish browsing all the stuff in MY area, because i wanted to come tell you to check out stuff in YOUR area.

happy savings!!

am i being a bad bride?

let me start by saying, i love my bridesmaids. LOVE them. they are my 3 best friends in the world, and my one and only little sis =) so i want them to look, and feel, beautiful on my wedding day.

i've already picked out the dress, a simple black, cap sleeve ruched black taffeta number....gorgeous, and totally rewearable (no really, my sis already has plans for it!) dress. and i've already told them i don't care how they get their hair done, or what shoes they wear, as long as they're black, or silver. for the record, my color scheme is pewter grey, lime green, and black and white. so black or silver shoes would be gorgeous, and totally appropriate. and i thought i was cool with that.

until today.

would i be a terrible bride for taking it all back, and asking them to wear one of these pairs?? they're lime green, and a pop of shoe color with their black dresses would be SOOOO cute, and since i'm wearing colored shoes too, then it would be even cuter!
my concern is 1) i'm not sure 3 1/2 to 3 3/4 inches is too high for them....i have some less-than-heel-loving girls....2) what if they are SUPREMELY uncomfortable??
what's a girl to do. i haven't voiced my desire for green shoes, because i didn't want them spending a lot on shoes they'd wear once. but THEY'RE BOTH LESS THAN $20 A PAIR, from GoJane. and they're soooooo fun.
help please!

this will come as no surprise.....

but i love shoes. A LOT. and i've been very good lately and haven't indulged too badly....well, other than the silver guess flip flops i got for $25, and my so-dirt-cheap-they-don't-even-count suede moccasins from target.

so this heel lover needs a fix....and have i ever got some options!!

seriously, are these not the CUTEST thing ever?!? you can't tell....but they're navy, with pink dots....

and come on, like i can resist a perfect barbie-pink pair of patent pumps?! i'm not that strong!!

the best part about these beauties.....BOTH pair would cost me all of....$36. of bless you payless!!!! so yes, this girl will be hitting the mall soon to try these pretty girls on.....as long as they're semi-comfy, i CAN'T say no!!!

two of my favorite words EVER.

oh that's right. FREE. CUPCAKES.

sign me up.

here are the details....you know how there are good cupcakes, and sometimes great ones? this is more like knock your socks off, slap your grandmother amazing. for reals.

and once again....they are FREEEEEEE.

my fabulously bake-a-licious friend over at HauteCakes is giving away ten dozen. that means, you get at least.....8 to share with that special someone, and oh so many to devour on your own!

or you can share them all, if you really want.

with flavors like s'mores, cookies and cream, and hello, what girl doesn't love a little razzle dazzle??

so seriously, check it out.

GO!! tell her your favorite redheaded shopping guru sent you =)

i'll admit....i might have a problem

i'll admit....once i find something i really like....i tend to go overboard with it. i have 4 old navy tees in different colors, with plans to buy more. i have the same target sweater in about 9 colors, and various necklines. and don't even get my started on my OPI collection...it's sick.

clearly, i have an obsessive personality.

that being said, i'm also stuck on things i like. A LOT.

enter everyday minerals.

(not my samples, by the way)

so, the lovely Jen turned me on to this mineral makeup. you can get a 5 piece sample kit, with 3 foundation colors you get to choose, a concealer, and a blush....FOR FREE.

that's right lovely readers, FREE.

i got 3 shimmery sample sized eyeshadows too....and with shipping, my total was $10. the samples are small, about the size of a quarter, but there is PLENTY of makeup in them, and i LOOOOOVE the eyeshadow!! love it...the shimmer is GORGEOUS. i am a shimmer mineral shadow fiend, no lie....it makes a smoky look better, and faster, than almost anything.

that being said....i'm contemplating another purchase, a kit with 4 shadows, a blush and a brush is only $10.

let me know if you try it, love it, or have a color recommendation.
